Before troubleshooting, please note the following regarding the pumps
- Pumping boiling liquid will cause air to get into the pump and make it loud. We recommend not pumping boiling liquids.
- The pump will be slightly noisier when a valve on the output is not fully open. Never close or partially close a valve on the input of the pump
- If a pump makes noise but still pumps, run the pump for 1 hour or 1 brew day and see if the noise goes away after a break in period
- Never turn on the pump when it is not full of liquid
To troubleshoot, first remove the pump head and all parts forward of the motor, and run the motor, is it loud? Does the magnet spin freely or wobble? - If it is loud or wobbles please submit a ticket. If the motor is quiet and does not wobble, try the next steps below.
Check that the impeller shaft (Part I in our Guide and pictured below) is fully screwed into the pump head. Note that it is a left hand thread, turn it counterclockwise to tighten.
Check the impeller and other parts for damage. If you see signs of damage, let us know in a ticket.
Lastly, check to see if the drive magnet (Part B) is in the right location. Remove the plastic motor adapter (C in the diagram) with the 4 Philips head screws, and check the distance between the back of the drive magnet (B in the diagram) and the front face of the motor. It should be 0.220". If it's more than that, loosen the Allen set screw (1/8" size), adjust the distance, then re-tighten the set screw. An easy to approximate that distance is to stack two nickels and a quarter. Then install the rest of the pump parts in reverse and it should run quietly and smoothly.
